Internship Overview
Rick Hancock of FOX-CT did a feature story on me when I was in high school then offered me an internship at the station when I got old enough.
In January 2013, I accepted his offer and joined the web team full time. I worked in a very unique newsroom; CT1Media owns FOX-CT and the Hartford Courant newspaper. The television, newspaper, and online teams all work together in one newsroom.
The great thing about the internship was that I was able to make the experience anything I wanted to. I used the opportunity to pursue my passion of political journalism. The staff there allowed me to essentially be a multimedia political reporter each day as I came in for work.
I pitched story ideas, called officials, interviewed state senators on camera, filmed standups, and created stories in a range of media formats.
I wrote VO-SOTs for television and clips of my interviews aired during the evening newscast. I wrote articles that appeared in the print edition of the Hartford Courant and my video news packages, photo slideshows, and interactive timelines were published online.
