During my internship at News 8, I filmed this video on the WTNH evening news set. I got to read the end of the 5:30 p.m. newscast through the first block of the 6 p.m. show.

I kept in touch with News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons for years before I had my internship. He knew me pretty well and one day he gave me a chance live on the air. Check out my liveshot on Good Morning Connecticut.

One day while shadowing News 8 reporter Kent Pierce, I had the chance to film this news pak about the Branford Fire Department installing solar panels on its roof.

I shadowed a News 8 photographer who filmed this video and interview for a VOSOT. I wrote my own script, recorded a voiceover and put this pak together.

Internship Overview

News 8 was my hometown local station that I watched as a child, and since middle school I always hoped to intern there. I finally got that chance when I interned in the news department of WTNH-TV during the summer of 2012.

I produced news packages by researching, shadowing reporters, filming standups, writing scripts and editing the video.

I got a real taste of what life is like being a broadcast journalist, and it got me even more excited.

One of my favorite journalists Darren Kramer, graciously mentored me and gave me some good incite to the industry. Kramer, the evening news anchor, is one of Connecticut’s most well known journalists but he still took the time to help and teach me throughout the summer.

I shadowed every department, including editing, web and graphics.

I answered phones at the assignment desk and helped setup the weekend morning show contests.
